Dogs are some amazing animals. They can be so much more than pets, too! So often our dogs are parts of our family and provide emotional and physical support in times of need.
For one woman, it was her dog that saved her from a home intruder!
Tracy McCoy lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and is incredibly thankful she has a dog like Dubai! Dubai is a Great Dane and saved her life when a stranger walked into her home, looking to do harm.
Dubai is a 120-pound Great Dane, a pretty good deterrent as far as dogs go!
Tracy was moving around her house when she heard the side door open. She had thought it was her son who was coming to visit and she didn’t think much of it. When she turned the corner, however, she was face to face with a stranger.
To make matters worse, she was home with her youngest son, Nathaniel, who is totally blind.
Nathaniel didn’t know what was going on until he heard his mom scream from across the room. The terrifying moment came to a head when Dubai also heard his mom scream! The instant his mom screamed, Dubai knew that the stranger wasn’t welcome.
The man was caught on camera the moment he stepped into the home.
Incredibly, when he first came into the house, the man stopped to pet the massive dog. It wasn’t until Tracy screamed that Dubai understood that the man wasn’t welcome at all. Once he knew that, he PROMPTLY escorted the man from the home with a few nips and lunges at his hand and face.
Despite the home appearing to be the perfect spot for burglary, it was under the secure protection of a Great Dane!
The AKC put it perfectly on their breed description:
Despite their sweet nature, Danes are alert home guardians. Just the sight of these gentle giants is usually enough to make intruders think twice. But those foolish enough to mistake the breed’s friendliness for softness will meet a powerful foe of true courage and spirit. Patient with kids, Danes are people pleasers who make friends easily.
The following day, Tracy and Nathaniel were still pretty shaken up.
While things may feel scary for a while, they can rest confident in two things. The first is that the man was immediately captured and placed in jail the same day. He won’t be messing with anyone else’s homes any time soon! The second thing, however, is that if anyone isn’t supposed to be in that home, Dubai is fully capable of “escorting” them out!
If you ever wanted some extra confidence in your home security system, it may be worth it to invest in a Great Dane!
While your food cost will probably go through the roof, you can be confident that whether you need snuggles or protection, you have a friend who is up for the job!
