He’s definitely on a mission. <3

Since the dawn of time, there has been an enigmatic figure of society who has been a quiet yet essential vertebrae in the spine of civilization. The mailman. Without postal workers, where would be be? Probably with all the stuff we haven’t been able to send! During World Wars, we wouldn’t have been able to reach our loved ones overseas. We wouldn’t have been able to write fan letters to the red Power Ranger in 1994. Still waiting on the reply for that one…

But it isn’t only humans who get excited when postal workers arrive…

This adorable video of a golden retriever living up to his name by retrieving the mail is…golden.

This good doggo waits dutifully by the mailbox whenever it’s due to come around with the goods. There’s a long running stereotype of dogs barking angrily at mail delivery workers, but that is NOT the case with this capable canine.

But what is she waiting for?

The big white van with the red and blue stripes. This golden retriever waits by the side of the road for this postal truck as if it were an ice-cream truck.

And then, when it eventually comes around, this good girl gets to do what she does best. She…golden retrieves…

The breed is known for its loyalty to its family, as well as its personable nature and friendly demeanor. According to Dogtime.com, the breed is not only great around kids, but they’re great as working dogs:

“Golden Retrievers excel at retrieving game for hunters, tracking, sniffing out contraband for law enforcement”

But not all golden retrievers are on the “frontlines”.

As it turns out however, for some families the breeds propensity for retrieval doesn’t necessarily span to hunting and contraband. The same qualities make it perfect for fetching the mail!

So eager is this dog that it doesn’t even wait for the van to get to her house!

Before the lady delivering the mail even has time to stick the mail in the neighbor’s mailbox, she trots over enthusiastically.

Then, as if she’s about to receive a treat, she waits patiently.

All the while her tail is wagging with enthusiasm for the job at hand. It’s this keenness to be involved and help out that make these dogs excellent working dogs, as well as reliable pets. Golden retrievers are often employed as seeing-eye dogs to help blind people navigate the world because of these qualities.

When the van delivers the neighbor’s mail, it’s time to give this dog her mail.

Even as the van draws up to their house, the doggo grows more and more excited. The time has finally come for her to play her part.

The delivery lady hands down the mail, obviously ready for doggo to be the recipient!

This must be a daily exercise for this delivery driver as she does her rounds. She seems to look forward to her daily dog-livery too! Viewers of the video have noticed this relationship and noted in the comments section:

“If I were this mail delivery person, I would ALWAYS make sure to have some BACKUP JUNK-MAIL handy – just in case there was NO MAIL for that home… I couldn’t ever allow this precious little sweetheart to be disappointed in any way! 🐾❤️🐾”- Maggie G.

And beaming with pride, the pup returns with her prize.

Having done her job well, she happily jogs away from the mail van with her prized letters. She may only be holding a mouthful of bills and bank statements, but to her she’s retrieving the gold.
