There’s nothing that would make your heart sink faster than learning that your beloved pet is ill, especially if there’s a possibility of it being something serious. It goes without saying that most of us would empty our bank balance if it meant that our pets were happy and healthy, and that helpless feeling of knowing that you can’t do anything to help is soul-destroying.

So when Lily the Golden Retriever became sick all of a sudden, her owners were prepared to do whatever it took to make her better, while at the same time they braced themselves for the worst. But despite vets discovering a huge tumor in Lily that was almost certainly cancerous, her owners never gave up on her, and they ended up getting the best news possible.

It turned out that Lily didn’t have cancer, and her owners decided to film the big moment that they told her that she was cancer-free, posting it on YouTube for us all to see. If this doesn’t make your day today, then we don’t know what will!

The video, titled, “Dog reacts to her Cancer test results,” was posted onto YouTube by Dani Girl, and it now has over 6.3 million views, as well as thousands of likes and comments.

“Overnight Lily got sick. She could hardly stand.” Dani explained in the video’s YouTube caption. “We took her in and they found a tumor on her spleen.”

“She was bleeding internally, and so anemic her breathing was affected she needed a blood transfusion or she would be dead in hours. Once they stabilized her they told us it was Hermangiosarcoma, and its very common in Golden Retrievers. It comes on fast and she only had days to live if we didn’t do surgery.”

Vets were almost certain that Lily’s tumor was cancerous, and warned Dani that even if Lily made it through the operation, her chances of survival in the next coming months were low. It was a devastating blow for Dani.

“The bad news was that even if we did do the surgery she’d only have months,” Dani said. “There was a small chance, only 10% chance that it was the benign kind. The vet said that in her 20 years of emergency medicine, she never had a case where that happened.”

“We had to make a choice fast. We didn’t want to give up. We emptied our savings account and did the surgery. They removed a 6 pound tumor! She immediately seemed better. But they said it would only be temporary. That in a few months she would bleed out.”

In the end, Dani decided to do what most of us pet owners would do, and she took the chance. It’s better to try and fail, than to have not tried at all, right?

“I kept saying, “but what if it is benign?”” Dani recalled. “They were clear that it has never happened and we should be prepared and just enjoy our time with her. One week later we got the results. This was the moment I told her.”

Amazingly, despite Lily’s vets practice never having encountered a benign tumor in over 25 years, Lily was determined to beat the odds. And when Dani received the results and discovered that Lily didn’t have cancer, she was absolutely over the moon. In the emotional video, Dani tells an excited Lily:

“You don’t have cancer, no you don’t. You’re the first case in over 25 years! You’re not going anywhere!”

In response, Lily grins and wags her tail – and while she might not be aware of exactly what’s going on, she knows that today is a day to be happy.
