Unfortunately there are uncaring people out there. They have no regard for others so long as they get what they want. But more often than not, victims come out stronger with a beautiful spirit to match.
Such is the story of a German Shepherd who went on to be named Rex by his rescuers. Takis Shelter went up a remote hill with a policeman who was notified of a dog tied up to a tree. He was there for days.
They are from Crete, Greece.
The man and his police companion walk up the hill and there, tied to a tree with a chain is a German Shepherd. Whoever it was that left him chained there probably did it to scare of the sheep.
The poor dog was leaning back on a rock all scared and tired.
What’s worse is that there was a storm the previous night which meant this dog was left exposed to the cold and the rain. There was no shelter for Rex. Now there was food but no drinking water so whoever left him there obviously didn’t care much for the dog’s welfare.
The cop approaches Rex tentatively but the man assures him that Rex won’t bite.
Rex was so scared but he summoned up that GSD spirit and let the men touch him. Poor guy was sleeping in his own filth too. But look at Rex’s eyes when the camera closes in. They are so gentle and full of love.
He’s a good boy!
Rex’s tail starts wagging as he gets up with an eager look at the men. Maybe he senses that these are good souls and that finally, he will be rescued. You bet! And whoever it was that left him is in big time trouble.
A one meter chain was all he had that held him to the tree.
It’s heartbreaking to say the least to see him unable to move or get himself food or water.
The rescuer speaks to Rex, assuring him that he is now in good hands. He tells Rex to not be scared and that he will have freedom. The cop comes back with water and just look at Rex drink it up. Poor boy was so dehydrated.
They lead Rex back to the car where he starts jumping on the passenger’s side doors. He just wants to get in and leave that awful place. And who can blame him?
He’s in better spirits already.
Back at the shelter, Rex is now free to roam around with no fear. He went straight for the water bucket and drank for over three minutes. Can you imagine how thirsty he was? Drink it up, bud!
He now has friends. There’s also food, water, and most importantly, the love he so deserves. He may be on the skinny side now but give him a few weeks with these guys and he’ll fill in nicely. He’s so handsome!
Who named him Rex? His rescuer of course! Now this Greek German Shepherd has another chance at life all thanks to the noble men who came to his aid. Live free, Rex!
