Elephants are the best! There is no way around it. The day that scientists figure out how to have mini elephants at home is when they give dogs a run for their money! Imagine having a mini elephant as a pet. Now THAT’S cool.

While dogs are safe (for the time being, at least), we will just have to enjoy elephants over the internet.

Most of us will never have the chance to become friends with an elephant. Thankfully, we have the internet! While I don’t know the details, elephant videos have to be among the top 5 most searched terms, right?

Two things connect people with elephants in a way that other animals don’t.

While all animals are wonderful and cool to see, there is something special about gray giants that humans love. If one were to put it to words, it would be empathy and intelligence.

Elephants are among the top animals in the world when it comes to intelligence and empathy.

We see both of these traits in dogs in high numbers. Have you ever had your dog just sense that something is wrong and come over to give you snuggles? That’s empathy! Elephants have something similar because they are organized as a family out in the wild. A family without empathy is a recipe for disaster!

At the Elephant Nature Park, watching an elephant in action is commonplace.

The ENP has tons of videos of elephants doing the coolest things. They are an organization based out of Thailand that rescues and rehabilitates elephants in need. Even more than that, their human caretakers bond with the elephants they rehab in the most amazing ways.

This video does a good job showcasing the empathy and emotions that elephants can show.

Dok Geaw is a baby elephant calf that was recently rescued by the ENP. At the time of recording, he was only 1 year and 9 months, making him quite young. Unfortunately, Dok Geaw was orphaned and wasn’t able to fend for himself in the wild.

When Dok Geaw got to the park, however, a new family wasn’t hard to find!

Arriving at the park, little Dok was finally ready to meet his new family! Calling out with his trunk, his own elephant version of a “hello” rang out across the park. His new family was quick to respond!

Hearing his call, the whole group ran over to see their new adopted calf!

In a controlled stampeded, the group of elephants already at the ENP hauled it over to the enclosure where the little calf was being held. When they finally got there, they looked elated to see him!

Sticking their trunks in the gaps in the railing, they all “shook hands” with their new friend.

Humans shake hands, and elephants shake trunks! When they saw their new friend in the enclosure, they immediately reached out with a comforting trunk. That had to make Dok feel special! After the instructions were over, it was finally ready to let Dok spend time with his new family.
