This just warms my heart.

For a lot of people, nice and friendly dogs are better than having aggressive ones. Friendly dogs are less likely to attack family members and cause problems at home. They are less likely to have behavior issues, too.

A teenager thought otherwise.

He used to hit his dog Charlie in an attempt to toughen him up. When the dog didn’t hit or fight back, the boy found him too nice. He didn’t want that kind of dog so he surrendered him to a shelter.

Because of how Charlie looked, he was in clear danger.

A woman named Maaria knew this. After seeing the dog, she felt the need to do something.

She drove 200 miles to get Charlie.

It was love at first sight. The dog was so sweet that he didn’t have a hard time warming up to the family, including their foster cats and kittens. In fact, the dog got close to Darwin, a cat.

The two were inseparable.

They do things together. At times, Charlie would groom the cat. They would even cuddle when they take naps together.

Unfortunately, not everyone is comfortable with Charlie and Darwin being with each other all the time.

Maaria would often hear her neighbors say bad things about their pets’ friendship.

One of her neighbors said:

“I wouldn’t leave your dog alone with your cat. Isn’t he one of those dangerous dogs? Wouldn’t he try killing your cat?”

Maaria had the perfect response to her neighbor.

Instead of reacting negatively, she actually showed kindness to the person. She sent her neighbor a Christmas card showing Charlie and Darwin snuggling together.

Because Charlie has been getting a lot of negative attention, Maaira wanted to make sure about his breed.

She got the dog DNA tested and the family found out that Charlie wasn’t really a pit bull. Even if he somehow looks like one, he’s actually a Staffie cross Rottweiler.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Rottweiler dogs are cheerful and intelligent. Even though they are a bit protective towards their family, they are still super caring and sensitive dogs.

In the UK, Charlie’s breed isn’t considered as a pit bull.

This meant that Charlie was safe not just legally but socially, too. People think negatively of pit bulls. They consider them as aggressive and dangerous.

Charlie is the sweetest dog ever.

He likes animals, no matter the size or kind. However, he’s particularly into rabbits and kittens. He’s so patient with them, particularly the new foster kittens his human brings into their home.

He patiently waits for them to come to him. He doesn’t rush. Even if he’s shaking with excitement, he waits for the tiny creatures to be comfortable with him. He’s like the icebreaker for the foster kittens at home.

He’s quite a forgiving dog, too.

Charlie has been through a lot. He’s been abused, surrendered, left alone, and shamed by a lot of people. Despite everything, he’s still in good spirits. He’s a naturally happy dog and he got even happier with his new family.

Now, he wouldn’t have to be worried about being too nice and being himself. He can get all the cuddles he wants and he can spend all the time he wants with his kittens.
