We love seeing how animals interact with others, and there’s nothing that warms our hearts more than seeing an animal friendship. Dogs in particular are pretty much always willing to make a new friend – whether that be with a human, another dog, or a totally different type of animal. So when we came across a story of a dog who was so fascinated by some guinea pigs that she made a bid for freedom to go and see them, we knew that we’d have to share it with you!
It was all quiet one morning at Pets at Home in Bishopbriggs before staff members saw the funniest thing. A German Shepherd burst into the store without her owner and ran straight over to one specific section. The store sells a variety of small animals such as rabbits, hamsters, and gerbils, but the excited pup was only interested in one type of furry creature – the guinea pig.
The runaway pooch then sat and watched the guinea pigs as if they were the best entertainment in the world. How adorable!
Shortly after the dog arrived, the owner herself entered the store – and she didn’t seem surprised at all about the fact that her pooch had done a runner.
In fact, she knew exactly where he’d be, as apparently she regularly makes an attempt to visit the pet store. The owner told staff not to worry, as her pooch was just here to check out the guinea pigs, before going to collect him.
Shopper Sharon Burns managed to capture the hilarious moment on camera, and she shared the photos on Facebook along with the caption:
‘This dog just ran across the road straight into pets at home. The owner ended up behind me in the queue to get in & she said “she just loves looking at the guinea pigs” And sure enough she’s inside just staring at them.’
The post instantly went viral with over 12,000 shares and 11,000 likes, and people took to the comments to share their love for the post. Many users suggested that the dog’s owner should buy the animal lover her very own guinea pig, whilst someone else added:
‘She just wants to be best friends!’
It turns out that dogs and guinea pigs can actually make quite good companions – and we have a video to prove it!
The Dodo shared this adorable clip of a guinea pig who follows his favorite golden retriever everywhere, and it just goes to show that friendships between different species really do exist!
“He absolutely has to follow her everywhere,” the owners tell The Dodo in the video. “All he wants in his life is Pippin. He has to be usually touching her. If Pippin is on the couch he has to be under her. He just becomes at ease.”
The video shows Pippin and Frankenstein the guinea pig cuddling up with each other, playing together, and even hanging out outside! The adorable duo’s owner ties a balloon around the guinea pig’s body so that she always knows where he is – genius!
This means that even when Pippin is outside, her best buddy can still be with her.
“She’s his comfort pillow,” their owner says.
We love seeing stories of animal friendships, and we hope that the sweet German Shephard is able to get her own guinea pig companion soon.
