She might have lost her leg but never her spirit.

A dog named Delilah was badly abused and neglected, and it was apparent with her condition when she was first surrendered to the shelter.

The poor dog was scrawny. Her fur was matted with blood, excrement, and other things that she caught on her skin. They don’t know what happened but Delilah’s jaw was so crooked that her teeth didn’t even line up.

She also walked on three legs because one of her front paws was infected.

Delilah could’ve died from her injuries. But thanks to her rescuers, she got a new lease on life. One of the first things they did was to amputate her front leg. Even before the operation, Delilah was struggling on standing on it that she got used to moving, or hopping, on three legs.

They expected that the recovery will take a long time.

After all, missing a limb meant readjusting most parts of your life. Not Delilah, however. Instead of anxiety and cautiousness, Delilah was sprightlier and more energetic. It’s like she was just waiting for that leg to come off so she could live her life.

The change in her personality was like night and day.

The once-melancholic dog zooms through their house. Being three-legged didn’t stop her from chasing after her owners, other dogs, or toys.

She missed on so many things that Delilah was just ready to give life a go.

“Like the immediate transition was really awesome to see,” Chris Hughes said to The Dodo, “like she came out of her shell.”

But running around wasn’t the only thing she loves to do.

Delilah loves to give her owners a ton of kisses. And when we say “a ton”, it meant “all the time”. She would run up to her dad and lick his face. Or her mom when she’s working out. No one’s spared from her love, even the other dogs she lived with.

Chris Hughes admitted that he’s bad at letting dogs go.

Hughes created the Mr. Mo Project to help dogs transition into their forever homes, most especially senior dogs. Now, the couple hosts dozens of dogs in their home. They are a mix of foster dogs and permanent companions.

So when Delilah wanted to stay, Hughes just can’t say no.

In front of the Hughes pack, he presented Delilah with her very own collar. From here on, she doesn’t have to worry about how she’ll survive. All she needs to worry about is if she’s giving enough kisses to everyone in her immediate vicinity.

And while she was found almost close to getting terribly sick, her will to give happiness helped her become the dog she wanted to be.

Delilah’s imperfections made her perfectly loveable.

She may have lost a leg and her smile can look a little bit funny, but no one can resist the optimism and the bright attitude she brings along once she hops into a room.

The dog they found with a badly infected leg was unrecognizable. She’s now full of life and affection, and we hope she’ll live her best life from here on.

Watch how this dog with a bad leg and a crooked jaw transformed into the happiest dog.
