Pets are not objects that can be bought as presents and then, when they are not fun anymore or when they become a nuisance to the owner, they can be discarded as if they were made of paper or plastic.
But still, there seem to be some people who believe it is okay to abandon their animals when they don’t feel like having them around anymore.
Unfortunately, cats and dogs that are abandoned by their owners are doomed in many cases.
Since they used to be family animals, they are not used to living outside or fighting for their food, so this makes it likely for them to starve to death.
Also, newly-strays are susceptible to inhumane treatment by people who consider them a nuisance and abuse them or even kill them for fun.
Yet, sometimes the abandoned pets are lucky to be found by kind people who have made it their mission to save those vulnerable souls that once believed they had found their forever home but were later on disappointed by their owners’ behavior.
One such example is the Dog Rescue Shelter in Mladenovac, Serbia, which consists of two people who do all the hard work, but they really don’t complain because they know they are helping to make the world a better place for animals and humans.
The no-kill shelter aims at saving animals from abuse and at the same time at educating people about how they should treat animals.
So far, the shelter has placed more than 300 dogs and they are currently hosting 320 adult dogs, 20 puppies, and 20 cats until an appropriate home is found for them.
About a month ago, the shelter staff received word that there was a dog with two puppies abandoned for a few days and refused to eat or drink anything the locals gave them.
The team, without hesitation, hopped in their van and arrived at the designated location. The mama dog was obviously sad and undoubtedly waiting for her former owner to come back and take her home.
But these people knew nobody was coming back for Moli, as they named her, and her puppies.
In the video that follows, a man from the shelter approaches the dog with some food and he manages to make her eat. Then, in the grass, he finds one of her puppies and takes it close to his mom. The second one takes a little more search and cries a little when it’s found, but once next to his mama, he’s fine again.
After a while, the man places the puppies right by their mama so they can nurse, and when he has earned their trust, he picks them all up and takes them to the van.
Next stop, the shelter to have them vet checked, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered when the time is right.
Before leaving, some people look around in the tall grass for more puppies and indeed there is another one. So, the family of four is then taken to the dog shelter to be taken care of.
