Maybe he was just resting his eyes?

It’s pretty normal for humans to fall asleep while they’re sitting. But what about dogs? This dog sure does!

Most of us lead busy, hectic lives. And that means that we’re often tired.

Some working dogs are the same. They spend their days on duty, helping humans wherever possible.

The dog in this video lives a pretty leisurely lifestyle. But he still loves nothing more than a good snooze!

One evening, he was sitting just underneath his owner, when a bout of sleepiness struck him. The dog was in a new environment, so he didn’t want to lie down and slumber. So instead, he sat up and tried to keep awake, in case his owner needed defending in that unfamiliar place.

But as time passed, the dog’s urge to sleep got stronger. Soon, he couldn’t stop his eyes from closing. He was sleeping while still sitting up.

Then his head started bowing down. Briefly, the dog opened his eyes and sat up straighter. But then he closed his eyes once more.

Again, his head started falling slowly as he fell into a deeper sleep.

Then the owner’s friend noticed the sleepy dog. “I don’t know why he doesn’t lay down,” he said. Durr, because he had a duty to protect his owner!

Soon, the dog was looking for his owner’s leg, so he could rest his head while still sitting up. That was sure to fool any would-be attacker into thinking the dog was wide awake!

The owner then lifted his leg into the air, and the dog gave out a little bark before falling asleep once more.

Luckily, the friend had been filming the sleepy dog. The footage then appeared on YouTube, where it went viral.

To date, it has gained over 1 million views. It also has more than 13,000 likes and 500 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Of course, there’s nothing unusual about a sleepy dog. It’s just that the dog in this video is so dedicated to his owner that he refuses to let his guard down.

Most dogs sleep between 12 to 14 hours every single day. For a human, that’s a lot of sleeping. But for a dog, this is healthy. And when dogs get old, they’ll need to sleep more often.

One thing that’s interesting about dogs is that they go into rapid eye movement (REM) sleep faster than humans do. As most of us know, REM sleep is when we have dreams.

And if your dog isn’t sleeping well, then there could be a couple of reasons for this. It’s possible that your dog isn’t getting enough exercise. If that’s the case, then you either need to walk them more often or let them exercise in another way.

If you have a yard, then you could make it dog escape-proof, so that they can roam around. Or you could also play fetch with them more frequently.

Another thing that could be causing your dog to sleep less frequently is anxiety.

Of course, a dog could be anxious for a number of reasons. If they’ve moved to a new home, been separated from a family member or are subject to scary sounds, then they may be so anxious that they struggle to sleep.

And lastly, if your dog can’t sleep, then it could be a sign that they’re ill or injured.

If you think that could be the cause of your dog’s sleeplessness, then take them to the vet!
