Have you ever wondered if pets can get mad at humans? We know that fellow humans can feel offended and pout if you don’t treat them like they want to be treated or if they don’t get what they want. But can your dog really be mad at you, and if so, how can you tell?
Well, according to specialists, dogs can get mad at their owners for a number of reasons, varying from a change in their schedule to separation anxiety to a physical problem that may be annoying them. Now, supposing your dog is indeed mad at you, how can you tell and what can you do about it?
One of the most common signs that your canine buddy is angry or frustrated, is that it avoids eye contact. Normally, dogs are okay with looking their owners in the eye and being looked back at. However, if for some reason they are angry with you, they are likely to avoid it.
“A dog who is happy and comfortable will likely be willing to make eye contact with his owner and seek out their attention whereas a dog who is angry or upset may avoid this type of interaction and move away from their owner, leave the room, or even sleep in a different area,” says Erin Askeland, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, dog training and behavior expert at Camp Bow Wow.
Another sign is that your dog’s back may go rigid and his body stiff. This could indicate stress, a feeling of being trapped or threatened. In both cases, the best thing you can do is give your pet time to feel comfortable around you again. Offer them some quiet time, maybe listen to soft music or read a book, and wait until the discomfort is over.
In the video that follows, the cute dog is obviously mad at his mom, as his body language indicates. He avoids eye contact with her, while he also refuses to move. It’s clear that something has annoyed him and mommy knows that very well.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Are you mad at me?” she asks. “Why are you looking at me like that? Ralphie, are you mad at mama?”
Ralphie has a disappointed face that shows clearly that he’s not in the mood for hugs. He’s upset and his mom has to do something to fix it. During this time, the woman talks to him in a calm voice, while she’s still trying to understand what is wrong. And then it’s time to apologize.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she says in an apologetic style. “Will you give me a kiss?” she asks.
That was it! Ralphie couldn’t resist his mom’s cuteness and he forgot about his frustration, all he wanted to do was hug his mama!
The video really melted our hearts and Ralphie looks like a baby that pouts until his parents apologize and then he runs to their arms for cuddles!
