Cute Little Dog Fails As Sheepherder

January 22nd, 2020

Some follow the rules to get a job done. Then there are others who, well…like to think more outside the box.

A dog named Nelson has people everywhere cracking up over his version of “herding sheep” and is known as the “World’s Worst Sheepdog.” His internet stardom comes from a video where he shows off his skills for keeping sheep in line – only it’s not really the most typical method. In fact, you might say he has it all completely mixed up!

If you’re in need of something to brighten your day, the clip below is sure to do the trick.

Throughout television, movie, and internet history, there have been many lovable dogs that have won our hearts. From Lassie and Old Yeller to cartoon Snoopy and Scooby-Doo, a lot of us can’t get enough of our canines. Let’s not forget Buddy Mercury the singing beagle too!

Nelson Bell is a sweet-looking part Norfolk Terrier that has his own website and Instagram page. Looking at his photos, it appears he has a nice life with his family full of adventure – which includes getting to be around other animals.

Nelson earned himself a spot on social media after a video he was featured in went viral. His dad James titled it “Worlds Worst Sheep Dog.”

But really, how bad can he be?

Herding livestock is a task that canines across the globe take part in and according to Animal Planet, is “one of the oldest of dog professions.” There are variations of the method, but it can involve active movement, eye contact, barking, and/or nipping.

Nelson is able to keep a flock of sheep in line with a slightly “unusual” technique that’s been watched nearly 900,000 times on YouTube.

James is filming the scene as his dog stands facing the sheep for a moment, staring them down. Don’t think Nelson is just going to use his mind-power though. He’s got too much energy for that!

The pooch then takes off and begins to circle around the sheep. James tries telling him, “Nelson, come here.” However, that’s just not going to happen.

In no time something quite comical takes place. The herd begins “chasing” Nelson while he runs around the yard – as if he’s leading them.

One viewer hilariously wrote on YouTube:

“You know when dogs squirm in their sleep. This right here is what that dream is about.”

Where Nelson goes, the sheep follow, creating an interesting (and funny) herding method. He has them on his tail the entire time.

Now, from what it appears, the pooch isn’t really trying to control the flock. Instead, it seems like he’s simply playing around. However, isn’t it the best when you can get work done all while having fun?

Some viewers don’t agree that Nelson is technically the “World’s Worst Sheepdog.” One commenter believes he might actually have a natural talent for it.

“Mate I recon he might just be the best sheep dog and doesn’t know it. If he can gain that much control in that short amount of time where the sheep just follow than thats all the hard work over .. you tell the dog to go into holding yard sheep all follow.. lock the gate job done!”

Most of all, it’s a clip that’s putting a smile on a lot of faces. Another viewer wrote:

“It doesn’t matter how many times I watch this, I crack up every time! It’s a guaranteed laugh for me!”
