Animals are always getting up to something new. While it may seem like they do not fully understand the inner workings of the human world, sometimes they surprise us and themselves with their ability to act like us. Whether it be walking on their hind legs, or meowing in a way that sounds just like a word in English, animal behaviors can feel awfully close to human life.

One dog in Florida proved this in an extreme case. In a turn of events, a black Labrador named Max had the opportunity to show everyone how good of a driver he is. This moment shocked his owner, himself, and many onlookers, but it was also a great morning of entertainment.

After his owner got out of the car, Max the dog hit the stick shift.

At 8 am on a Thursday, a silver Mercury Sable pulled over on the side of the road. The owner got out to examine something he had noticed on the side of the road. His big black dog, Max, was left in the car.

Max, ever a surprising pup, accidentally knocked the stick shift, so that the car turned into reverse.

Then somehow, the car started moving.

In reverse, the car began to move. Max was still in the car, and his owner was outside watching this all happen. The car, still in reverse, turned in circles on the road for over an hour. To make matters worse, the doors locked.

The owner had to watch as his car and his dog moved in a perfect circle the whole time. Then, neighborhood dogs and people living in the area started noticing as well. Max’s antics turned into a spectacle that no one could look away from.

Fortunately, the residents of the street seemed to be pretty entertained by it.

Onlooker and resident Anna Sabol’s three dogs started barking at the commotion, so she looked out the window to see what was going on. Fortunately, she tells South Florida Sun Sentinel that she didn’t mind it at all:

“It was a pretty funny little situation…It made my day, obviously.”

She also told ABC-WPBF:

“A black dog jumped out I was like they should give that thing a license.”

Eventually, the situation got itself under control. The cops also showed up to help get the dog out of the car.

After an hour of running in circles, the car ran itself up a nearby lawn. The combination of the hill and the mailbox that it also hit stopped the car in its tracks.

Still, the car kept running and the doors were still locked. The police showed up and were able to get the doors open by entering a code on a keypad at the side of the door.

Fortunately, no one was hurt and the dog is okay. Plenty of people, including viewers on the internet, got to enjoy the wildness of the story.

One person commented on the YouTube video:

“That dog was literally driving his neighbors crazy.”
