Dogs make wonderful companions, but they also help fill many important roles in society. From sniffing out bombs and suspects to guiding disabled owners through busy streets, people seem to forget that dogs do much more than cuddling and looking cute. In fact, this past June, an adorable cocker spaniel impressed the world when it demonstrated its very special skills during a demonstration in Madrid.
In the impressive video uploaded by the Madrid’s municipal police department, you see a dog named Poncho “resuscitating” a human partner who has feigned collapse.
In the video, viewed more than 3 million times, you see the police officer collapse. Then Poncho, his eight-year-old K9, immediately rushes to the scene, hoping to save the day.
Wearing a flashing blue light, Poncho jumps into action, leaping onto the officer’s chest in a canine-version of chest compressions.
Then, the dog nestles his head into the officer’s neck, as if looking for a pulse.
After a few sets of compressions and checks, Poncho’s owner is revived— and the crowd goes wild.
According to NBC News, the police department shared the video to promote animal adoption, and since being uploaded online, it has been viewed over 3 million times. People are going crazy for Poncho’s amazing CPR skills. In fact, The Local Europe says he’s the only dog in the world known to have this incredible talent.
When the Madrid police shared the video to Twitter, they wrote: ‘Heroic’ performance of our #Compañerosde4Patas Poncho, who did not hesitate for an instant to “Save the Life” of the agent, practicing #RCP in a magisterial way.’
They then ended by including a quote from 19th-century, American humorist Josh Billings, which reads: “The dog is the only being in the world that will love you more than you love yourself.”
Since being uploaded online, Poncho’s demonstration has gone completely viral.
It’s hard not to be impressed by the energetic pooch, voraciously bouncing on his partner in an attempt to save his life. Comments on the video read:
