You’ve probably heard the term “fighting like an old married couple.” Maybe you even know people who do it!
And while it doesn’t sound very nice, it can actually be quite sweet. It’s reserved for couple that are so comfortable and love each other so much, that the bickering doesn’t actually hold any weight or animosity.
Just think of Fred and Ethel from I Love Lucy, or Kitty and Red Forman from That 70s Show.
They’re some of the best characters!
After spending years and years of your life with somebody… it makes sense that you’d start to argue about the little things.
Well, I’ve recently learned that it’s not just a silly saying and tv/movie trope for humans. Dogs can apparently fight like old married couples, too.
These adorable chihuahuas are living proof!
It’s a bit of a one-sided argument. Her puppy hubby isn’t feeling so friendly.
The old white doggo is particularly grumpy today, and he’s taking it out on his poor ol’ wife. What did she do to deserve this kind of treatment? Who, quite honestly, looks like she’s had enough of it.
He’s barking away and she just keeps trying to ignore him and let him get it all out of his system.
She’s so used to his antics that it’s become a bore. She yawns while he’s barking in her face, and I’m taking notes. I think I’m going to pull this move next time I get in a fight with my boyfriend. That’s a queen move.
Another pup in the pack tries to come over and break it up, but the grumpy boy won’t back down.
Eventually the third dog just has to give up, and looks at the human behind the camera for help. Why are you letting him treat her like this!? the eyes say.
They’re tearing our family apart!
It goes on for ages. He’s following her around the yard, giving her an earful of whatever he’s borking about. I don’t know how she keeps her cool. I keep half-expecting her to turn around and snap at him. But she’s cool, calm, and collected.
What does he want? What did she do to make him so mad?
Honestly girl, you don’t need this kind of negativity in your life. This is toxic. Leave him!
For one short moment he stops, and looks so put out. Like he’s having a really hard day yelling in her face.
His wifey looks over at him with a look that screams, Frank, are you serious right now?
Look at that scowl! I’ve never seen such an unhappy dog.
Aren’t they usually full of unconditional love?
Panting away and wagging their tails like they don’t have a care in the world? …Maybe that’s only in front of humans because we feed them.
It can be hard to understand what prompts a dog to fight with another. You can be on a lovely walk, your pup will pass another doggo and want to play, then moments later pass another and all hell breaks loose.
The Spruce Pet explains that it’s not always so serious.
“Dog play mimics fighting and can sometimes look rougher than it really is. Any play session can escalate to a fight, but it is less likely when there are two well-socialized dogs playing.”
I certainly hope that’s the case for this adorable pair. At least we know wifey is well socialized and good at keeping her cool. Not sure we can say the same for her grumpy hubby.
Some viewers weighed in on what they thought the pups were fighting about.
Guesses ranged from infidelity,
to cooking responsibilities and the threat of divorce.
We’ll never know what’s really going on in their little doggy brains! But I certainly hope this couple manages to patch things up.
