A tiny Chihuahua didn’t understand why she was in a cage in an animal shelter.

One second, the one-year-old dog was living with her owner and enjoying a nice, typical dog’s life. But then, without warning, her owner surrendered her to the high-kill Carson Animal Shelter in California. The shelter gave the Chihuahua a little pink sweater to keep her warm, but they couldn’t offer much else. The heartbroken Chihuahua cried herself to sleep at night, whimpering to herself as the other dogs barked around her.
