An 83-year-old United Kingdom woman is likely alive today be because of her cat Piran.

Piran pulled a Lassie and saved the day after alerting a neighbor that his owner was in danger.

The woman had gone missing near her home and neighbors, as well as officers from Bodmin set out to search for her.

However, it was neighbor Tamar Longmuir that found the senior after Piran was incessantly meowing near the corner of a large maize field near the 83-year-old’s home.

Tamar had been searching for her neighbor and explored other nearby fields but couldn’t find her neighbor.

“There was no sign of her.”

That is until she came across Piran. The cat kept meowing and Tamar sensed that Piran was trying to get her attention.

So, she started following Piarn who eventually lead her to the elderly neighbor.

“The cat is very attached to her, and he was going back and forth in the gateway and meowing, so I decided to go and search the maize field,” Tamar told People.

Police said that the woman had fallen about 70 feet down into a steep embankment that was difficult to access because of the uneven terrain.

“Just as I was going to go off the path and start going through the crop, I heard a very faint response to my calling. I then quickly realized my neighbor was down the 70-foot ravine,” Tamar told Sky News. “She had gone through the barbed wire and was laying in the stream — we think she had been in there for hours.”

Water rescue specialists were able to hoist the woman back up to the field on a stretcher using a line rescue.

“Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance, along with their specialist water rescue team, Cornwall Air Ambulance, and SWAST, and the female was hoisted back up to the field on a stretcher via line rescue,” Bodmin Police said.
“She was then taken to hospital via the Air Ambulance in a stable condition,” “Piran the cat saved the day!”

Once she got to the hospital, the woman was found to be in “good spirits.”

“Whilst the lady concerned is still currently receiving care, she is in good spirits and is being well looked after.”

And it’s all thanks to Piran.

“Without the cat waiting at the gate to that field, it could have been hours later that I or anyone else would have checked in there,” Tamar said.

The story of Piran’s heroism ended up going viral.

“What a happy ending! The cat is a hero. She might not of been found in time if not for the bond and love of this pet for Its owner! Good job!” wrote one person on the Bodmin Police department’s Facebook page.

“Such a heartwarming story wishing the lady a complete recovery, thanking all the rescuers for all they did and what an amazing cat Piran is he really ought to get a medal and some extra sardines,” said another.
