It’s no secret that cats and water just don’t mix.

Very few cats will tolerate being put in water and even fewer enjoy it. Still, when your cat is dirty, you have to bathe it. This is something most cat owners avoid. Anyone who has ever attempted to bathe a cat probably has the scars to show it. They will scratch, kick, bite, and meow as much as possible to avoid being put in water.

In this video, Tigger the cat is taking his protest of a bath to the next level. He is actually arguing with his owner. As she prepares his bath and attempts to put him in the water, he can be heard saying, “no” very loudly. His owner tries to calm him down and talk him into it, but he just keeps voicing his opinion.

He doesn’t want a bath; he is fine being dirty.

But still, as every good parent knows, sometimes you have to make your kids or, in this case, pets do things they don’t want to do. She pets the cat to calm him down and gently places him in the water. Although he is still crying and expressing his feelings, he seems to trust that she knows what’s best for him and gives in.

He allows her to put soap on him and scrub him down. He even lets her rinse him clean. He isn’t happy, but what can he do at this point? His owner can’t stop laughing at him and can barely get through the bathing session.

Most cats know how to swim pretty well but still hate water. Nobody knows exactly why cats have such an aversion to water.

But most people accept that the two don’t mix. When a cat gets dirty, it will just clean itself. Of course, sometimes a cat’s curiosity can get the best of it and it finds itself covered in mud or even oil. That’s when it’s time for the owners to step in and help.

When this video was shared on social media, there were a lot of people who thought this woman shouldn’t be bathing Tigger. They claimed that he was crying because he was scared and that the owner should have just stopped after the first whimper. There were a lot of comments telling the owner that was she was doing was cruel and unnecessary.

There were other people, however, who felt like she was doing what was best for the cat.

They understood that Tigger was safe, and that the owner was simply bathing him out of love. She was doing her best to help the cat feel safe and if the cat was really scared or upset, he would have been doing more than just crying. His owner clearly cares about him and is even willing to risk bodily harm to make sure he is nice and clean.

She noted in the video description that the bath was, unfortunately, necessary:

“FOR THE RECORD: This bath was absolutely necessary. At the time of the bath, Tigger was really dirty to the point that he was leaving traces of dirt and stains all over my bed, his bed, and the dog’s bed (he loves to roll in the dirt with my dog and lay under cars with the neighbor’s cat!). You may think cats are clean animals, and don’t need baths, but Tigger really doesn’t spend much time grooming himself for some reason.

“I decided to give him the bath this day because he came in with a couple car oil stains on his back which he was unable to clean himself, nor would it have been healthy for him to lick the chemicals off. He may not have been happy about the bath, but it was for his own good.

“We decided to film it because as soon as I started running the water, Tigger started making funny odd noises we had never heard, so we just thought maybe we should capture it! He is perfectly fine and was back to his usual self 5 minutes after the bath. No harm done! Tigger is a happy, healthy, spoiled, well-loved kitty!”

Hopefully, she doesn’t have any close neighbors and her walls aren’t too thin. If they can hear this, they probably wonder what goes on at her house. Most people wouldn’t expect it to be a cat being vocal about bath time.

Hopefully, this didn’t prompt others to start bathing their cats regularly. It’s probably best to just let cats handle their own baths unless they are really messy. Not all cats will handle it so well, and most will do more than just cry. If you try this yourself, you may end up with some cuts, scrapes, and bruises, and your cat will probably still need a bath.
