Losing a pet is always difficult. Your pet is your constant companion, and many people’s schedules center around taking care of their pet.
It can be hard to come to grips with the sudden hole in your life.
The pain can also be difficult to deal with.
This is what a couple in the UK had to deal with when their cat ‘Bear’ suddenly passed away. But little did they know, they weren’t the only ones who loved Bear. He was also a beloved companion to their neighbor too.
Bear had a brother Teddy, and the two of them were inseparable.
They adventured together every day. What their owners didn’t know was that these adventures often lead them to the home of their neighbor.
Still mourning their loss, the couple arrived home one day to find a note attached to Teddy’s collar. That’s when they learned of the friendship that Bear had developed with their neighbor.
The note read:
“Dear Owner; I’m your neighbor, living in 4. I’m also your cats’ close friends as they (2 cats) are used to coming to my room everyday. But one of them, a bigger one has disappeared for two weeks. Is he ok? I’m so worried about him. He is so lovely cat and always touched my heart. Wish he is fine.”
The couple was touched by the kind gesture and appreciated knowing that Bear had impacted the life of another.
“We posted a letter back into number 4, saying that our other cat had passed away. We also included our email address,” they said.
The next morning they received an email from their neighbor that touched their hearts.
They learned that the neighbor was, in fact, a Taiwanese exchange student who had been studying at a nearby university. She explained that she had befriended the cats a long time ago and loved spending time with them – especially Bear. She told them that Bear was a great friend to her in times when she felt homesick and he filled her heart with joy.
“He would sit on her bed and listen… she didn’t have anyone else to practice with. Very touching… She even attached some pictures they had taken of my boys which warmed my heart,” he said.
The neighbor visited the grave they made in their garden for Bear and even brought flowers.
“Makes you proud that he could brighten up more than just my households lives,” they said.
What a touching story that shows just how much impact a cat can have on people’s lives. While losing Bear was certainly difficult for the couple, we’re sure knowing how much he was loved helped ease the pain a bit.
