It can be hard for a cat to deal with life in a shelter.

A shelter is noisy, and there’s a lot of other cats around, which can cause a cat stress. But sometimes, cats can form bonds with their fellow shelter residents. And this can lead to beautiful, heartwarming stories.

Like the story of Luna and Louie.

When Louie and Luna made their way into STAR Rescue in Gainesville, Florida, they were both pretty lonely.

But once they met, they instantly became friends and decided they wouldn’t let each other go. Now they do just about everything together and especially love to snuggle and give each other kisses.

James and his girlfriend had stopped by the shelter looking to adopt a dog, however, they were smitten by the two lovebug kittens.

James’ girlfriend absolutely fell in love with the two cats, especially Luna, so they returned to the shelter two weeks later. They had only planned to adopt one cat, and they decided to adopt Luna. But they realized they just couldn’t leave Louie behind.

So, they took both of the cuddle buddies home with them and decided that they would foster Louie until Luna’s companion was adopted too.

But that didn’t last long. They ended up permanently adopting Louie too!

James says his kitties are really grateful to be together in a forever home.

“They’ve been inseparable since they were adopted and they always do everything together,” James told Buzzfeed. “They sleep, eat, and tear apart my Christmas tree as a unit.”

They were also spotted giving each other lots of kitty kisses.

“Your cats are precious and I wish them a happy life,” said one Twitter commenter. “Please give them a pet for me.”

The internet completely fell in love with these cats and photos of the two lovebirds ended up going viral and retweeted more than 54,000 times. James is thrilled that his cats are bringing people happiness.

“I’ve seen a lot of people saying things like, ‘This has made my day’ or ‘I’m crying at how beautiful this is,’ or something along those lines,” James said. “I like seeing people happy, and I’m glad they can confide in cat photos for that.”
