With the right training, dogs can be graceful creatures who jump over hurdles and perform complicated maneuvers with their feet. And no sport showcases dogs’ gracefulness more than dog-dancing. This sport is very popular in Europe, and there are competitions all over the continent.
In this sport, professional dancers typically do complicated routines with their dogs. While all of these routines are beautiful, there’s one pair that has taken the dog-dancing world by storm: Sandra Roth and her Border Collie Lizzy.
Roth has been a professional ballet and jazz dancer for over 24 years. She’s also a big dog lover, and she got her beloved dog Lizzy when she was just a puppy. Dog-dancing allows Roth to combine her two passions.
“Lizzy has been learning tricks and freestyle moves since she was a puppy. But we’ve had many problems and she was not an easy dog. So our main focus for the first 3 years was on her social behaviour and not on dog sports,” Roth wrote in her performer profile.
As time went on, Lizzy grew more confident with her dancing:
“[She] gets more and more confident and our relationship has improved a lot. She is also starting to enjoy the attention by the audience.”
From this video, it’s clear that Lizzy now loves dog-dancing. Her tail never stops wagging the whole time she’s performing!
In 2014, Roth and Lizzy competed in a Dog-Dance Freestyle Competition. Everyone was amazed by how in-sync the two performers were.
It’s clear that these two practiced a ton and that they trust each other completely. Both Roth and Lizzy had the routine down pat, and they both moved gracefully and beautifully.
Roth and Lizzy often coordinated their arm movements, and they also did some incredible jumps. We’re particularly impressed by the way Lizzy jumped over Roth’s back multiple times. She also did an amazing jump through Roth’s legs!
Video of this stunning routine quickly went viral, and it has now received over 10 million views.
In the comment section of the YouTube video, almost everybody left positive reviews for this dancing pair. One commenter said that she’s watched and shared the video countless times.
Another commenter joked about how difficult it would be to get their dog to do a routine like this.
Today, Lizzy and Roth still dance together. Roth often shares beautiful videos of Lizzy dancing on her YouTube page.
