Elephants have always captured our attention. While they’re known as the largest living land animals, their high intelligence, acute memory, and overall friendly attitude towards humans have earned them a lot of love on the internet.
But if there’s one thing people love more than elephants, it’s baby elephants. There are countless posts showcasing their innocent, playful demeanor similar to puppies or even children, demonstrating feelings like love, fear, and even playfulness, especially during bathtime.
A baby elephant is shown playing around in its bathtub.
The Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal in Thailand, ran by nonprofit enterprise, Elephantstay is a sanctuary that cares for old, retired, and nonworking elephants where visitors can encounter and ride and play with the enormous critters.
In a viral video posted by Claus Jørgensen, a baby elephant was filmed horsing around during bathtime as tourists watched to their delight.
Despite being the size of a small refrigerator, the baby elephant’s behavior was very similar to a mischievous puppy.
The baby elephant spent the entire video splashing and rolling around in a bright red bathtub as a caring tourist gently hosed and played with it. The adorable trunked critter then stood and struggled to leave the tub before succeeding. The baby elephant wandered around, encountering other tourists with a friendly attitude.
The baby elephant continued to get out and into the tub out of fun.
Later in the video, as the elephant was reentering the tub, it actually went to the bathroom! Nevertheless, the onlookers remained enamored with the large, juvenile elephant as it kept rolling. Soon a mother and child chimed in and continued spraying the elephant with the hose, clearly enjoying its luxurious treatment.
The video ends with the baby elephant stealing the hose for himself!
The baby elephant left the tub for the final time in the video, but not before taking the hose from a little with its trunk, almost dragging her away. The video was posted by the tourist on YouTube in March 2015, and since then it has gained over 15 million views and over 100 thousand likes.
Baby elephants behave in such cute ways they almost act like puppies, and with their ongoing popularity in viral animal videos, it’s unlikely we’ll ever become bored of them.
