In fall 2018, Theodore was found wandering around the town of Langley, British Columbia. Nobody knew where he had come from or who his former owners were. A local animal shelter, Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS), said they would take Theo in. LAPS typically looks after smaller animals, like cats and dogs, but they decided to make an exception with Theo!

Animal control officer Tina Jensen-Fogt headed over to the street where Theo was running around, and she brought a huge horse trailer.

At first, Theo was reluctant to go into the trailer. But then, Jensen-Fogt pulled out a chocolate chip granola bar. Using the snack, Jensen-Fogt was able to get Theo safely into the trailer!

Jensen-Fogt took Theo to LAPS’ shelter, and the giant pig quickly settled in. The pig is as sweet as can be, and he loves scratches and cuddles more than anything.

“He is especially fond of tummy rubs and back scratches and makes very adorable pig grunting noises while he gets them,” Jayne Nelson, LAPS’ executive director, told The Dodo. “He loves to eat his favorite foods, root around his enclosure and snuggle into his comfy straw bed for nice long naps.”

Everyone in Langley was touched by Theo’s story, and many people in the community donated to help pay for Theo to get neutered.

A local grocery store also donated some of Theo’s favorite foods to the shelter, including bread, peanuts, and apples.

After Theo was neutered, LAPS wanted to put the sweet pig in a foster home, a place where he could get all the cuddles he wanted. Jenson-Fogt convinced her mom to take Theo in.

Theo loves his foster mom, and she spoils him with all his favorite treats!

“He is rather spoiled here,” Jensen-Fogt told Global News. “My very kind mother cooks for him. She makes a big bowl of oatmeal once a day. She adds in blueberries or frozen peaches… whatever she has on hand.”

Since Theo’s diet is so healthy, he has lost a bit of weight in his foster home.

“He’s lost weight, for sure,” Karin said. “He still eats well, but you can see his wrinkles now.”

LAPS is hard at work looking for the right forever home for Theo.

Since he is so big, Theo needs lots of room to run around. But more importantly, Theo needs someone who will provide him with all the love and care that he deserves.

A few local news stations have shared stories about Theo. LAPS is hoping the publicity will help Theo find the right forever home soon!
