There’s no arguing that baby animals are utterly adorable. But there’s just something about a tiny, but majestic, elephant that makes it doubly so.

Even though they’re born weighing in at around 250 pounds, they’re still tiny compared to their parents. At about 3 feet tall and fuzzy hair on their foreheads, they are even more adorable before they’ve learned to use their trunks (which they swing to and fro until they figure things out).

While male elephants go off on their own at around 12-14 years old, females stay with their packs for life. That means adolescence lasts a lot longer for elephants than most other animal species.

Little ones are always around the adults in the herd and are very dependent on their mothers, especially in the first 6-8 months of their lives.
