Thankfully, three Bolivian boys who thought they could become Spider-Man didn’t have the same unfortunate end.

According to Telemundo, three boys aged 8, 10, and 12 thought they would receive the same kind of super spider powers that Spider-Man had if they let a spider bite them.

The same way Peter Parker, from the Marvel Spider-Man comic book series, got his abilities to crawl up walls and shoot strong sticky webs from his wrists after he was bitten by a radioactive spider.

The boys from Bolivia didn’t find a radioactive spider to bite them.

Instead, they found a black widow spider while they were taking care of some goats grazing in a field.

Most people survive a bite from a black widow who typically only bite in self-defense.

Black widow bites in Bolivia are even less prevalent.

Bolivians are more likely to be bitten by other spiders such as the corner spider.

A bite from a funnel spider is far more serious, according to Telemundo.

You could die if you’re not treated with 15 minutes of getting a bite from one of those nasty dudes.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, there are 3,700 species of spiders in the United States.

Only a dozen of those species are considered “medically important” that will fall into two groups, brown spiders or widow spiders.

Some have a red or orange-red hourglass shape on their abdomen.

Symptoms can start to subside after 48 hours and disappear after five days.

Bites rarely end in death but can cause complications in children and the infirm.

Try not to allow spaces where spiders can build webs in and around your home. Try to fill in holes, seal cracks and crevices, and reduce your outdoor lighting as to not attract insects they’ll be attracted to eat.
