There will never be enough proof of the age-old wisdom that dogs are man’s best friend.
It takes a lot of love and patience to care for an animal and the bond that results from it is often very special. In addition to being our companions, dogs can also serve as emotional and mental support during tough times. Because of their undying love and affection, dogs are often used as therapy animals for a variety of needs.
For Cleveland, Ohio resident Andrew Wright, his therapy dogs Polo and Baby Girl were an indispensable part of his life.
Wright suffers from seizures which Polo can help detect and manage.
Needless to say, Polo’s support during these scary moments makes a huge difference in Wright’s life. That’s why it was so terrifying when his car got stolen from a local gas station—with Polo and another puppy, Baby Girl, still inside. Because Wright’s car had OnStar, the police were able to quickly recover the stolen vehicle.
Unfortunately, Polo and Baby Girl were not inside.
Wright was very distraught that his previous dogs were gone.
According to an interview Wright gave to the local news station WJW, the pain was almost unbearable:
“It’s hurting. It’s hurting every minute. I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. I hear [them] crying.”
Viewers could feel Wright’s pain through the television screen—and fortunately one viewer named Mariah Singleton had noticed that there was a stray dog in her neighborhood which matched the description.
As it turns out, the dog was Polo.
Singleton called the police to help her organize a reunion with Wright. When the two finally reunited, Wright was overjoyed.
“Thank you for having a heart. Thank God for opening your heart to call. That’s community. You guys helped us. You’re helping people — this is what we need.”
The tearful video of Wright and Polo together has gone viral and it’s easy to see why.
Although Baby Girl has not been found, Wright is hopeful that vigilant viewers will help reunite them as well. As their beautiful reunion shows, dogs and people are meant to be together. Even for those of us who don’t have therapy dogs, we still can’t imagine what we would do if one of our beloved pets went missing. Though it’s great that Wright and Polo were reunited, there’s more work to be done to get the whole family back together.
Here’s to hoping that Baby Girl is recovered as well!
