Tim Newton is used to seeing a lot of wildlife being a photographer based in Anchorage, Alaska. However, he usually doesn’t find that wildlife on his doorstep.

But last week he did.

“I crept over to the window and opened the curtains a crack, and could see it looked like a cat,” Newton told Channel 2.

He thought it was a simple house cat, but after taking a closer look he realized that this wasn’t the case.

“Tim was awakened by noises on our deck last week – and looked outside,” his Facebook post read. “In astonishment, he grabbed his camera.. and can you believe it? Mama Lynx and her SEVEN kits!! She called to them and they all lined up right outside in front of where he was standing (he was inside the screen door!) Amazing ALASKA WILD LIFE!!! (They proceeded to run and play on our deck, and then in our yard!)”

Newtown told the local news channels that lynx are usually gone in a flash which gives him only moments to grab his camera.

But this time was different. They ended up sticking around for a while to have a playdate. He spotted the mother lynx who then ushered her babies onto the deck one by one.

“These seven kits were such a joy to watch playing on our deck!” the Facebook post read. “Mama was very watchful over them – taking a good long look at that nearby photographer and his clicking camera!”

Newton says that the group was a very bunch of curious kitties.

They were confused by the clicking sound of his camera and were staring at him while he was shooting his photos.

“I actually had my bathrobe on,” Newton told Channel 2. “So I didn’t have legs, as far as the kits could tell. And I didn’t have eyes or a head. I just had this big round thing that wenk ‘Click, click click.’ So I think the little kittens didn’t have any clue what I might be”

Newton said he found the kits to be extremely active

“They were using the deck as a playground,” Newton recalls. “And those cats were chasing each other, and frolicking, and crouching and running. Just back and forth, across that deck.”

Newtown says that the mother and her little babies hung out on his porch playing for about 40 minutes and that it is an experience he’ll never forget.
